Family-favourite Sweet & Sour Meatballs
Serves: 8, Prep time: 30 mins, Cook time: 15 mins Total time: 45 mins
Ingredients
Meatballs
1lb ground beef
1 egg
1/4 cup milk
1/4 cup quick oats or breadcrumbs
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 onion, minced
1/2 tsp nutmeg
salt and pepper
Sweet and Sour Sauce
1/4 cup vinegar
1 cup water
3/4 cup brown sugar
3 tbsp ketchup
1 tbsp soy sauce
1 tsp mustard
2 tbsp corn starch
1/4 cup water
Directions
Meatballs
Preheat oven at 375.
Soak oats and milk for 5-10 minutes. Add remaining ingredients and mix thoroughly. Form into bite size balls and place on parchment lined baking tray. Bake for 10-15 minutes or until browned on top. Cut a meatball in half to ensure it is cooked all the way through.
Sauce
In medium saucepan mix all ingredients besides the corn starch and 1/4 cup water. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring regularly. After mixture has boiled, mix the corn starch with remaining water and add to the saucepan. Lower heat and stir until thickened.
Pour sweet and sour sauce over meatballs in serving dish and serve immediately. You can also place the hot meatballs into a crock pot with the sauce and keep on warm for several hours, or place into a baking dish and keep in oven until ready to eat.
Note:
